The Kaolahou Congregational Hawaiian Church in Maui. Otherwise, known as "The little Church by the Ocean Spray".
This nostalgic "little church" sits right across the calm waters of the Pacific Ocean on the very north side of Maui in the town of Kihei.
Just returned from one of the most beautiful services for Christmas celebration at the above Church.
If you could just for a moment transport yourselves to the ideal scene in a Pacific Island during the
most beautiful sunset while Hawaiian Hula girls dance to the ukulele songs of Christmas, you just spend the entire hour we, as a family spend at this beautiful ceremony.
Overlooking the gorgeous waters of North Maui in the Pacific, a quiet little church where no more than 50 people would fit, took us over the nostalgic moments of the old Hawaii and how it may have been that they celebrated the beautiful day of Christmas eve.
My wife and my two young boys ages 7 and 9 arrived just a few minutes after the ceremony started and we came just as 4 young and older beautiful women were dancing to "O Come, O come, Emmanuel" both in English and in Hawaiian as the sunset overcame our emotions to the point that I could held back tears of joy.
Ka Wehe'Ana I ka Pule: Call to worship were the first words in Hawaiian as the ceremony started.
The sacredness and solemnity of the occasion became obvious as the reading from Isaiah 9:2, 6-7 took place.
"The people who walked in darkness have seen great light; those who lived in a land of deep darkeness on them light has shined. For a child has been born to us, a son given to us; authority rests upon his shoulders; and he is named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace..."
For the over one hundred privileged ones to have found this "little church" we spend the most delightful Christmas Eve of all time in all of the 40 years that I have been in the Islands of Hawaii.
Mele Kalikimaka Makahiki Hou ! Merry Christmas
